Triple Vagal Method
What is the Triple Vagal Method?
The Triple Vagal Method (TVM) is a body-based somatic approach that works with the nervous system through gentle, intentional touch and other somatic practices. Rather than beginning with the story or trying to understand an experience intellectually, TVM works from the bottom up—beginning with what is happening within the body and nervous system in the present moment.
TVM works with the vagus nerve and the body's natural capacity for regulation, with the intention of building greater nervous system flexibility and resilience. Within the TVM framework, unresolved emotional and traumatic experiences can continue to show up through patterns of tension, activation, shutdown or disconnection, even when we consciously understand where those patterns came from.
This is one of the things I find so powerful about somatic work. Sometimes we know why we respond a certain way and yet our body continues to have the same response. TVM gives us another way to explore what is happening—not by forcing the body to let something go, but by listening to the nervous system and working with what arises.
Sessions may incorporate gentle touch, pressure points, breath, sound, movement and awareness of physical sensations. The intention is to create an environment where the nervous system can experience greater safety and regulation while allowing the body's own responses to guide the process.

What TVM May Support
People explore somatic work for many different reasons. TVM is intended to support:
-
Nervous system regulation and resilience
-
Greater awareness of physical sensations and emotional responses
-
A deeper sense of connection with the body
-
Increased capacity to move between activation and rest
-
Exploration of patterns associated with stress and past experiences
-
Greater awareness of triggers and automatic responses
-
A developing sense of safety and presence within the body
-
Connection with your body's own inner intelligence
Every nervous system is different, and experiences with somatic work vary from person to person. TVM is not a replacement for medical or psychological care, and I don't believe healing needs to follow one particular path.
